RETRIEVAL - If science allowed you to hold onto someone you’ve lost, would you?
Faced with the death of her fiancé, Christina retrieves his sperm posthumously, starting a journey of self and scientific discovery.
After Christina asks doctors to retrieve sperm from her fiance’s dead body, she discovers that retrieving sperm is just the first step. Christina must look for specialists to help her, encounters challenges around the viability of the retrieved sperm and weather the emotional ups and downs of IVF, all while navigating her evolving grief.
Rooted in Christina’s journey, the film includes Mel Cohen, who is leading access to PMSR across the country; Dr. Cappy Rothman, the trailblazing doctor who first successfully invented the procedure reflecting on his invention; and Brandy Vernoff, the first person born through postmortem sperm retrieval. Each reflects on the decision-making within their families; how grief evolves over time; what it means to build a family or uphold legacy; the power of hope; and the lengths you might go for a miracle in the face of loss.
RETRIEVAL immerses audiences in a world where people are grappling with these life-altering decisions on a daily basis, begging the question: can you heal grief?
